Narrative Concering Books Die Eisfestung

One of the only novels I've read that captures the magic of childhood without entering the world of fantasy, Stroud manages to capture the great loss that emerges as we travel through life (from childhood to adulthood) and are subject to disillusionment, death and isolation. The three central characters in the novel each feel themselves separated from their peers and - though very different in personality - find solace in each other's company as they embark on a magical adventure in an abandonedThis is a good book. It was a little slow getting into, but I was definitely hooked in the last 2 CDs. However, I was completely wrong about what I had thought the book would be as I went into it. I must have read the back cover of the book at least 10 times every time I considered reading it and then ended up with a different book. But I knew I wanted to read this one. I'm glad I did. But I'm thinking I would have enjoyed the book more if I hadn't kept expecting certain elements to come up that

Disappointingly boring.
A bit boring until the big climactic finish. I didn't like Marcus pretty much from the beginning. Also, from the back of the book I thought there would be a supernatural element to it, so I was a bit disappointed on that front.
honestly... the only thing I don't like about this book, is the Indonesian version cover design....I dont mean any disrespect to whomever designed it, whoever it was... but obviously he/she did not even bother to read the story or even take a peek inside. The story was set in old abandoned castle somewhere in rural Britain, and it happened during winter. The Indonesian version cover depicted something that resembles more of a Mediterranean castle, in summer.... just for the fun of it I try to do
After Bartimaeus, I expected something as grand as it, in terms of stories, characters, plots. I was greatly mistaken. I dont know whats the point of the story. Did Marcus tell his friends the real story about his injury and abuse? If he lied, why? I really didnt get it.
