JUMPING SHIP: AN INTRODUCTORY NOVELLA

The year was nineteen seventy-five. Barren couple, Pearl and Edward Riley stumbled upon a newborn baby girl. Her cries could only be heard by a true mother, which Pearl immediately became. Bundled up with their new child, they discovered a parcel of artifacts and a scribbled note that read: Sakkara. Pregnant seamstress, Petrina Dugal, became a runaway at the age of twenty-six. She ran away from a brutish husband, Roger, and a well-loved South American home in Georgetown, Guyana; at the heart of her rebellion – an enigmatic lover named Michael Chen. Pet and Mikey, as they became affectionately known, allowed love to blossom in front of her police officer husband and an intrusive community. Were they not aware of the dangers? Or did the pursuit of love trump obligations?

Sakkara Riley grew up with two loving parents – adoptive parents to be exact. She never knew the circumstances surrounding her discovery, until the age of sixteen. She embarks on a journey.

Jumping Ship is an introductory novella to the Island Hopping Series. There are 7 planned books - representing each of the islands that Sakkara will visit along the way.

Judge Regarding Books Jumping Ship (Island Hopping Series)
As I read this book, I found myself transported to another place and time. I was made privy to the intimate details of the characters' lives. I felt what they felt, saw what they saw. Their voices rang loud and clear, and when I reached the end, I found myself searching for more of this story. Janice Ross is the type of author who makes readers want to read and writers want to write. I'm looking forward to reading the entire Island Hopping Series!Adrienne ThompsonAuthor of The Bluesday Series

Described as an introductory novella, this book is actually three scenes in interconnected lives. We meet an American couple in 1970s New York, a Guyanese couple eloping some months previously and finally, some twenty-fours years later, the grown-up daughter who links them all. Jumping Ship has very little storyline and I presume this will follow in the planned resultant series. However this device was not revealed until the end which made me feel cheated. The text is mostly dry description

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jumping Ship by Janice Ross. The opening of the book hooked me in and I was instantly a prisoner to the hypnotic prose of this talented author. Her writing style is highly descriptive, yet fast moving and I feel as though I've found a unique literary voice. As the story progressed and the setting moved from the USA to Guyana, I felt I was right there with the characters and experienced their ups and downs, absorbing the culture and way of life and as we do with all

Multitalented author Janice Ross brought us something new with the Jumping Ship series. I'll admit I'm such a big fan is Damaged Girls that I wasn't prepared for a change. Yet, this new book hit me with all kinds of emotion. The separation of good and bad people all had a hand in this young girls search for identity and her past existence. I can only want the best for Pet and cross my fingers for a reconciliation with her daughter as the series continues. Ross is giving us a plethora of emotion

This book is a great start to a mystery series. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger but not enough of a one to be so annoying that you want to throw your kindle/book across the room. Janice Ross is an amazing author. She really knows how to take you through timelines without it being to confusing. The characters were easy to relate to. I can't wait to find out more about Sakkara. If you love the promise of a mystery with some romance thrown in than this is the book for you!

I loved the emotions that this book created. Janice is an awesome author who knows how to pull readers into her stories and connect with the characters. This is a MUST read.

I received this books as a Goodreads giveaway.Jumping Ship is the first part of what promises to be an interesting, suspenseful and heartfelt series. Janice Ross transports readers to the streets of New York, but even more vibrantly to Guyana to discover the circumstances that lead to Sakkara to be left in a New York alleyway as a baby to be adopted by a loving couple with no children of their own. Certainly, we do not learn everything yet, just how Pet and Mikey ran away from Guyana and Pet's
