First Things First - I Really Truly Loved This Book, The only Bad thing I can Say is it left me wanting more, I wasn't ready for it to end, I wanted to hear more about what happened to the Characters after Dunkirk. This a well researched and accurate to events of WW II From Germany's invasion of Poland to the Evacuation From Dunkirk. This Story Follows a male and female American Reporter, French Colonel, his daughter, His Brother a Captain over a military cavalry School, A German Wehrmacht Captain and his Wife, and a little Jewish baby boy, being taken out of German Held Poland, and an american fighter Pilot flying for the RAF,and two American spinster Sisters who runs an Orphanage in Paris and how all of these characters tie in together and how their lives intermingle and effect each other throughout this book. This puts you through all the emotions of love, hate, disappointment and compassion for the characters. There will Allies that you don't like and there will Germans that you will like and respect. This book really enabled me to live through the war through these characters and at times i really believed i was there. It is a must read!!!!!!

Weigh Up Of Books Twilight of Courage

I brought this book home because I succumbed to the cover. How could I pass up a cover displaying a swastika and the Eiffel Tower? I couldn't. It was unusual, in my experience, in that it was a WWII story that took place in it's entirety during the latter part of 1939 and the first half of 1940 beginning with the German invasion of Poland. The events in the story are seen through the eyes of an American war correspondent, a photo journalist, a German Wehrmacht officer, a French Intelligence

Possibly the best (and saddest) book I have ever read. I love WWII stories.From the journalists that are telling of the death and destruction happening around them on their travels, to an orphanage protecting lost children and orphans, to a scientific genius that once worked with Albert Einstein, who is hiding out and trying to crack Nazi code. It is very detailed and heart wrenching.If you are a fan of historical fiction, I definitely recommend.

If you like reading fiction and non-fiction at the same time, try reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's No Ordinary Time at the same time as this book. The books cover the same period in time, and each provides interesting insights on the other.

The Thoenes are among my favorite authors, but this is definitely not among their best works. Though The Twilight of Courage is impressive in its scope, it also has a very lackluster feel and tries to throw too many plots together. Unless you are an absolute World War II fanatic, I would suggest sticking with the Thoenes' Zion series.

I would not read this book if I had already read five books that go into more detail because this is just an over view and you miss so much if you don't read the other books. It is good if you just want an overview. It took me over 3 weeks to read this book and it hardly ever takes me that long. I usually finish a book in a week.

I was initially looking forward to reading this book since, given the size of it, I thought it would cover the entire WW2 period and tell me what had happened to some of the characters in the other book during the war years. However, this book only covers the first few months before WW2 breaks out in Europe. It was a pretty good read, but not quite what I expected. It also left me with some questions about what happened to some of the characters after I finished reading the book. Why, for

This long detailed tome is set against the backdrop of world war II. Several stories are told which at times intertwine with each other. My favorite was on the two American sisters running an orphanage in Paris and of the french street children that they eventually take in. At the end of the story they escape Paris before the Nazi's invade by commendeering a boat and taking off down the Siene--great stuff. Read this one if you like historical fiction told from a Christian point of view.
