Rendition As Books El impostor

The story of Enric Marco, a master manipulator that fooled people for years into believing he was a nazi concentration camp survivor in order to bask in the limelight of postwar celebrations. The book is difficult to describe. Cercas, the writer, refers to it as a novel without fiction. This, in many ways, makes it a biography, but it reads more like a memoir, which in itself is difficult to describe because it's a memoir not about the writer, but about another person, though it is about theWhat sounded like an interesting read drove me crazy! A man pretending to be a Holocaust survivor gets his in the end. I didnt realize Spanish people had indeed been sent to concentration camps so I did gain this knowledge at least. The author should have just stuck with the story (which was very interesting and enlightening). He might have had a good book by doing so. Instead he bent over backwards trying to explain why he was writing the story and if it was right to do so. He compared Marco to
This is the truth. This is what happened, or what I assume or imagine happened. Javier CercasI am an impostor, but not a fraud.Enric Marco, after his deception was uncoveredBook 12/13 from the 2018 longlist MBI (book 13 not yet being published), and perhaps my favourite in many respects of them all. As with fellow shortlistee Munoz Molina this is my 5th Javier Cercas novel - actually strictly 6th since one book was two novellas. My favourite to date had been The Anatomy of a Moment: Thirty-Five

El impostorEnric Marco was born in an insane asylum in 1921. He was raised by an uncle and aunt as the Spanish Civil War was starting. At age 15 he joined the republic forces to fight Franco. He was sent to Germany to work to pay off Francos war debt to the Germans. He ended up in a concentration camp but survived to return to his home in Barcelona. After twenty years he becomes a union leader and then becomes the president of Amical de Mauthausen, a Spanish group representing the survivors of
In his books, Spanish novelist Javier Cercas tackles the theme of "historical memory," focusing on the Spanish Civil War and the Francoist State. So it's no wonder that Cercas would be drawn to the story of Enric Marco, a man caught taking advantage of Spain's popular interest in historical memory.A master of self-invention and -promotion, the charismatic Marco fashioned himself a hero of the Spanish Civil War, an anti-Francoist rebel, and a Nazi concentration camp survivor. Cercas knows what it
If you're into stuff like this, you can read the full review.Fiction Without Fiction: "The Impostor" by Javier Cercas(Original Review, 2014-11-24)The Impostor is the story of Enric Marco, a fake holocaust survivor from the Flossenbürg concentration camp and one time chairman of the French association Amicale de Mauthausen. Cercas labels it a "novel without fiction", presumably because literary awards for fiction are sexier than those for non-fiction. Its been done before, as Cercas points out,
DNF at 47%. I am very, very bored by the story and the punctuation is driving me round the bend (an excess of colons and semicolons, a lot of them in the wrong place).
