Quinn led an interesting life, and was a nice man and a good actor. But frankly this book was a disappointment. Here's a man who started in Hollywood in 1936, married De Mille's daughter. and by 1947 had appeared in 50 films. After a break to work on Broadway, Quinn came back to film in 1952, and worked with Kazan, Brando, Kirk Douglas, Fellini, Peter O'Toole, and Olivier, to name just a few. Unusually candid autobiography. A more honest and open book and an interesting man.
I "read" this one on audio book...don't know if that constitutes "cheating" (LOL), but this was magnificent. Anthony Quinn narrated large portions fo the text, mostly modern times, with flashbacks and historical recollections by a younger male narrator.Listening to Quinn feels like listening to a long-lost grandfather who taught with his life about manhood, about bravery, kindness, as well as human failings and mistakes. I am not normally a biography reader, but this book was written well and insightful not only into this actor's life but also into the inner workings of Hollywood when some of the biggest stars were under contract to a few studios. Recommended for those who want a peek into what happened backstage during those b&w films.
