One upcoming tv show caught my attention, and it's named Recovery Road.
Recovery Road talks about a biracial seventeen years old girl, Maddie Graham, who is an alcoholic (and actually used drugs) yet she doesn't understand the gravity of her situation. After being caught red-handed, she has to go living in a rehab treatment center for 90 days, and by day go to school. Of course it's not a masterpiece but it is kinda cute to watch.
Obviously, when I discovered that this story was a book first, I decided to read it

Now that I've actually read it, I can say something:
1) this book is not at all like the tv show
2) the book is very lame

White and spoiled Madeline goes to rehab and the whole situation lasts fifty pages. It's unbelievable how can someone recover so fast. In those fifty pages, there's an irritating insta-love (view spoiler)[at least Maddie gets smart and goes on with her life, not caring too much about the guy (hide spoiler)]. There are tons and tons of slut shaming. The short chapters didn't fit in this kind of novel. Alcoholism isn't treated properly and random people die, without any real explaination. Flat characters with zero personality rule this novel.
Simply, recovery is a serious problem, not taken seriously at all in this book.
Watch the show, instead.

This was my first Blake Nelson book and I am looking forward to read more of his after reading Recovery Road. It was my final book of 2012 and I read it really quickly, not because I needed it for my 100th book (although I did), but because it was a great and compulsively readable book. It took me well over half the book to connect with "Mad Dog Maddie" and her story. At first, the characters seemed aggressively unlikable in a way that was less gritty realism than depressing torture porn.
